The Fastest Texter on Earth

How fast can you repeatedly press the keypads of your cell phone? Fast enough? Or have you encountered someone who can text a lot while doing other things and send the text within seconds?

Cellular technology seems to be the second most revolutionary breakthrough throughout human civilization after the first appearance of alphabets, said an expert whose name I totally forgot. What struck me most is that most people in the past had never felt necessary to have a cell phone as their daily companion. Wired communication (the telephone) had provided all what they wanted and needed, thought people at that time. But they were wrong!

The invention of portable modern cell phone by Marty Cooper (once Motorola's CEO, so I heard) has been drastically change the face of civilization. Many unthinkable ideas, implications, risks and consequences are coming after cell phone made its debut.  A decade ago, for example, people never thought texting activity using cell phone could become a competition offering hundred of thousand bucks as its prize. But in 2010, that comes to reality....

Let me introduce you to Ha Mok-Min (18 y.o. lass) and Bae Yeong-Ho (17 y.o. lad ), two South Korean teenagers with stunningly agile and energetic thumbs. These two teens were nobody until they won "Race of Death".

Race of Death? Don't get intimidated by its title. This event was actually a texting contest sponsored by LG Electronics Inc's Mobile Phone Division. Participants of the race had to copywrite a text presented on a monitor as fast as possible without making typos in their native language. Accuracy and speed are the keywords here.

Race of Death had invited a number of representatives coming from different nationalities. Some contenders come from Indonesia, Portugal, Mexico, Spain, New Zealand, Australia, and many others. Too bad that Indonesian team lost!

Here's the result:
  • Champion went to South Korea (and bringing back home US$ 100,000)
  • First runner-up went to the US
  • Second runner-up went to Argentina
  • Third runner-up went to Brazil
Hmm, seems I have to practice a lot to beat 'em all. Oops, my cell phone rang..."message received"! Time to test my texting speed. See y'all!
