Blogger.com New Features: "Blogger for Word" and "Amazon Associates"
Here is some news to spread today. If you're one of those bloggers, who are blogging on blogger.com platform, the two innovations could sound like a breakthrough. As we know, blogger.com and Google are working under the same management and how many times have we heard about Google's expansive and groundbreaking steps in the virtual world? Google Wave, Android, and what's next? Google has been aggressively making inventions and major improvements almost in every possible aspect. Hence now that blogger.com and Google start emerging some new improvement into our blogging activities doesn't really become a hugely unexpected surprise. The innovations certainly are made to enable us to blog with more ease and comfort. Can hardly wait to use the new features? So here's the recap, guys.
If you're one of Bill Gates' Microsoft Word loyal users, then this application might be extremely useful for you. I know how boring it feels to type your post in a tiny and narrow window on your blogger.com 'new post' tab (that's exactly what I'm doing now). From now on, you can type your post just like when you type essays on your wide and spacious window of Microsoft Word. You can add so many other things that you can't do while typing posts on blogger.com.
But before that, you have to download and install Blogger for Word application on this page. The 2 MB file will automatically be embedded in your Microsoft Word.
This is how to start posting via Microsoft Word 2007:
- Click the office button on the upper left corner of your Microsoft Word
- Find the 'publish' tab (the second tab from the bottom),
- You'll find three options, click 'blog',
- There'll pop out a dialog box named 'Register a Blog Account', click 'register now',
- A new dialog box appears and choose your blog provider (of course you must opt for blogger),
- Fill in the blogger account info and click OK,
- Wait a second or two, you'll get connected to blogger.com,
- After typing your post, click 'publish' button which is just below the office button.
- Voila, your post gets published!
One thing I always want blogger.com to do is to vary the font options (which only provides us seven types of fonts: arial, georgia, helvetica, courier, times, trebuchet, and verdana). It bores me to death to find all blogs with those standard font types in the whole virtual world. Blogger.com, can you account for the boring fonts assortment please?
Amazon Associates
Thanks to Darren Rowse's latest Problogger.com post entitled "Google and Amazon Partner Up to Integrate Amazon Associates Program into Blogger Blogs", I learned the newest buzz minutes ago, which later sparked me an idea to write this very post.
Some of you may have added Amazon ads on your blogger blogs by copying and pasting Amazon's html codes, so why did Google and Amazon do this? Some commentators on problogger.com asked this:
What I wonder is what benefits, if any, there are to using Blogger’s integration versus simply copying and pasting code into an HTML widget
No worries guys, if you think Google or Blogger.com or Amazon will deduct (a.k.a. cut your revenues) by applying this new feature, you're wrong. Your Amazon ads revenue will stay intact and untouched just like the way it was! Wait wait, you might ask by heart, how can I be so sure saying this? These are what one problogger.com commentator and Darren Rowse discussed about Embedded Amazon Associates ads on blogger.com:
Sohail: Now will google deduct any percentage from the sales through google blogs? there must be some thing for Google in it but will they deduct from publisher side or take percentage of commission from Amazon for sales?
Darren Rowse: Sohail – no I don’t think there’s any kick back for Google. It’s just a feature that will make their platform a little more attractive for some and as a result is good for their business. That said, there's no reason left in our mind to hesitate to immediately apply for the Amazon Associates and publish its ads on your blog with this new feature, isn't it?
